IBF Net · 5 October 2023

Zakat and sadaqah, central to Islamic poverty alleviation, face challenges in management and sustainability. Institutions relying on these funds need credibility, integrity, transparency, and professionalism. Addressing this, the IIIBF launched a program to certify zakat professionals skilled in Shariah and management techniques for charity-focused institutions.

Highlights of the course:

  1.  Zakat and Comprehensive Human Development: An introduction to zakat’s role in human development aligned with the objectives of Shariah and its contribution to Sustainable Development Goals like poverty reduction and reducing inequality.
  2. Mobilization of Zakat: Addressing zakat liabilities estimation for individuals and businesses as per Shariah. This includes zakat on assets like cash, gold, and incomes from various sources. Several countries’ dedicated zakat laws are also discussed.
  3. Allocation of Zakat: On distributing zakat to the eight beneficiary categories (asnaf) as per Shariah, also discussing how dedicated laws in various countries approach this.
  4. Zakat Institutions: Accountability, Governance, Regulation: A framework for zakat institutions’ accountability, governance, and regulation. Comparative analysis of zakat laws from different countries is provided.
  5. Innovations & Good Practices in Micro Management of Zakat: Case studies on innovative practices like fintech in zakat management, and strategies to enhance sustainability, transparency, and efficient utilization of zakat for microfinance and humanitarian needs.
